I had the distinct pleasure of photographing Sandy and Allen’s gorgeous Indian and Persian wedding at Arden Hills Resort & Spa this past weekend! What an amazing day with an amazing couple! Sandy and Allen both met in medical school in Philadelphia during a school mixer. Today they are both practicing podiatry, and their doing their residency in foot and ankle surgery.
This amazing wedding was filled with lots of color, lots of emotion, lots of love, and dancing. Lots and lots of dancing!
Here are some of our favorite moments of the day. Enjoy!
For the wedding ceremony Sandy wore her traditional Indian Lengha, complete with jewlery such as her “tikka” (head jewelry), “choora/chura” (bracelets), and “kalire” (warn around her wrists). Her hands, of course, were decorated with incredibly beautiful and ornate mehendi.
The children helped put the final touches on the ceremony site by distributing the rose petals! 😉
The couple sat facing the sofreh while Allen’s uncle performed the traditional Persian ceremony followed by Sandy’s grandfather who then performed their legal ceremony.
After the ceremony and family portraits the couple freshened up before their reception at Arden Hills. Allen changed into a fresh tuxedo, while Sandy changed into her Indian Anarkali Suit for the reception.
After Sandy and Allen cut their wedding cake we all enjoyed a traditional Punjabi dance! It was a “Bhangra” performance by a Bhangra team. The two female performers were Sandy’s bridesmaids; one her younger sister and the other her cousin.
And then the dancing began and went all night long! We all had a blast!
Did I mention there was dancing? A lot of dancing!?
The Persian music was amazing, as was the drummer on the dance floor! The drummer is known as a “dholi” and the drum is called a “dhol.”
