INDIAN WEDDING TRADITION | MEHNDI | YASH & ANJU’S PUNJABI WEDDING | PART II

Mehndi

Mehndi (also know as henna) is an ancient form of body art spanning over 5,000 years, originating from the Middle East, India, and parts of Africa. The art is created by painting the hands, feet, or body with a paste made from the powered, dried leaves of the henna plant. When left on the body for long periods of time it stains the skin, leaving the pattern on the body for up to several weeks.

As you can imagine it takes several hours to apply the mehndi, and hours longer to dry and stain the skin. I am in absolute awe in the artists that have the steady hand, talent and patience to produce this amazing art. The mehndi below was created by one of the best henna artists in the business, Neeta Desai Sharma of Mehndi Designer. Her work is absolutely AMAZING! You can follow her on Instagram HERE!

It is a very old legend that the color and darkness of the stain of from your mehndi is a direct correlation to how much your new mother-in-law loves you.  Good thing Anju’s stain was SUPER DARK! Ha!
