While doing a little research for this blog post I came across this article on the Huffington Post.

The author does a really nice job of showing the value in purchasing a wedding album after your wedding. I particularly like this quote from the article:
“Of all the things you spend money on for your wedding, your wedding photographs are the ONLY thing that will increase in value over time.”
The truth of the matter is after the first dance is over, the wedding cake is cut, and the flowers have died, all you will really have is your memories and your photographs. I encourage you to ask yourself “What details of your life do you remember from fifteen years ago? Will it be enough to have your wedding memories hidden away in a drawer or a box somewhere burned onto a DVD?” Assuming, of course, that computers will still be able to read DVD’s….
A few days ago I came across the box containing the film from my own wedding. My wife Sarah and I were married 15 years ago, and back then we printed a few dozen of the photos (out of 150 or so that were taken), and put them in a small album. To this day that little leather album is sitting on my nightstand next to my bed, and I flip through it from time to time to enjoy them.
When I found the box of negatives I took a peek at the photos by holding the negatives up to the light. I was shocked to see some photos that I don’t remember ever seeing before. After all they have been hiding in film format in this box in storage for over 15 years! I also came across a bunch of other family photos I haven’t seen since my children were born!
This experience prompted me to ask myself the question “What is the value of a photograph?” Since I make my living now capturing moments and creating these photographs I think it’s a good question to explore! After thinking about it for a bit I came to the realization that there really is no monetary value to the memories we keep in the form of a photograph of our family over the years.
As I look around my house I see all of the “things” that we all find value in; our furniture, computers, TV, phones, clothing, books, etc. The one thing that all of these items have in common is that they are replaceable. The memories captured in our photographs, on the other hand, are not. So, as cliché as it sounds, the truth of the matter is our photographs are priceless.
So what if we never printed up those few photos in that small leather album for our wedding? Quite honestly the reality of it would be that I would have gone 15 years without seeing those photographs and enjoyed those memories from my wedding!
Believe me, I understand. Wedding albums are expensive. The wedding albums we create for our clients are priceless pieces of artwork. Each album is individually designed and hand-crafted by our studio to suit the style and personality of each client. These precious heirlooms are designed to be shown and enjoyed for many generations to come!
So, perhaps a wedding album is not in your budget. If that is so I encourage you to at least do this; when you receive the digital negatives that we give you after your wedding, take them down and print them all on photo paper, and put them in a nice keepsake box. There is nothing like seeing your photos in print, and let’s face it, you may actually look at them more if they are there to view and share with family and friends!
As you plan and budget for your wedding, consider eliminating something like the limousine that you have planned to shuttle you and your friends around town before your reception, and instead invest in a family heirloom that you and your new family will cherish for a lifetime.
Below are a couple of sample wedding albums designed by our studio. We hope you enjoy them.
