About David

Filmmaker David Ethridge has a single passion: creating movies that move him first. His emotionally charged short films are all about capturing the true intimacy of weddings, anniversaries, vow renewals, and family celebrations throughout the San Francisco Bay area and beyond. Weddings are the cinematographer’s specialty; award-winning AVR Films feature the bride and groom in leading roles, the event excitement, and heartfelt family connections, resulting in a high-caliber custom film emulating a Hollywood production.

The creative director David and his talented son Brian work together as co-filmmakers, creating couture reels using a hybrid style of HDSLR and 8 mm film that gives their videos a contemporary vibe with a romantic vintage edge. The cinematic team loves filming subjects and surroundings in vivid color with dramatic lighting blended with retro black-and-white footage. Time lapses are another dramatic effect David and Brian use to enhance different backdrops surrounding the scene of the wedding. Trained by a master photographer early on, David also focuses on the meaningful details through his flawless still life shots: the bride’s gown, florals, jewelry, and especially the gorgeous bridal shoes. David and Brian are adept at filming exclusive events and are constantly complimented on not being noticed or changing the mood of the moment. David’s demeanor is like that of a close friend who naturally makes everyone feel at ease on the fun and crazy wedding day.

Below are photos taken by Brian MacStay Photography from a recent engagement shoot in Downtown Santa Cruz and a beach in Davenport we did with with AVR Films. After the shoot we went to Hulu’s in downtown Santa Cruz and shared photos and the fun of the day! Dave and I are both looking forward to shooting Kathryn and Mark’s wedding at Mountain Winery in Saratoga this summer!
